Introducing Video Outpainting
May 22, 2025
Picture this: you’ve got a beautifully animated scene or a carefully framed video shot. It looks great, but what if you could push the boundaries of what’s on screen? Video Outpainting on Morphic Studio now allows you to extend a video scene beyond what was originally shot or designed.
Today’s media environment demands adaptability. Content moves between screens: TikTok, YouTube, cinema, and other platforms with different formats and expectations. Outpainting helps bridge that gap.
With Outpainting, you can retroactively give your scenes this kind of room, whether it’s for story, aesthetics, or simply platform flexibility. You’re no longer boxed in by the footage you captured or the keyframe you designed.
To use Video Outpainting on Morphic Studio, simply select a video on Canvas, click on the ‘Expand Artboard’ tool, expand from any side as you desire, and hit ‘Generate’.
Use cases that go beyond the frame:
- Animation and Film: Add establishing shots, pull back scenes, or recompose moments without reanimating or reshooting.
- Cutscene Adaptation: Instantly reframe or extend pre-rendered cutscenes to fit different platforms (e.g., consoles, mobile, ultra-wide monitors).
- Marketing and Ads: Seamlessly adjust framing for new aspect ratios without cropping or distortion.
- Creators: Expand a vertical video into a cinematic widescreen experience. Or create punchier thumbnails with extended visual space that capture attention without reshooting.
- Education: Extend tight historical footage or archival images with period-accurate environments and textures.
- Creative “What Ifs”: Use outpainting to quickly prototype alternate shots, new camera angles, or wider interpretations of the same scene.
Video Outpainting is now live. Head over to Morphic Studio to try it now.
